What do I need to join the club?
- Be a student at Old Dominion University
- Get a Sports Physical done at the Student Health Center or elsewhere
- Pay $30 of club dues to sportclubs@odu.edu on Paypal with your name and Men's Rugby Club in the comments
- Fill the Acknowledgment of Risk form and give your insurance information
- Complete the Concussion test
Then you're all done!
What equipment do I need?
- Cleets
- Mouthguard
- Rugby shorts (optional)
- Head Guard (optional)
Do I need any prior experience before joining?
No! Many of our players join from other sports like soccer, wrestling, baseball or foorball and had never touched a rugby ball before joining. You learn at every practice and every game, even the most experienced players learn everyday. You will get hit and learn to get back up all the while making life long friends and memories, some of our alumnis have even made it to Pro Rugby or even the US National Team.
Do you play more 15s or 7s?
During the Fall semester we are a part of the Cardinals Conference and play set 15s games but during the Spring we play games and tournaments we choose that are most often played in 7s.
How do we go to away games?
The school has two Suburbans which each seat 7 people otherwise we drive our own cars and carpool as needed.
What are the yearly expenses?
Other than the required equipment and the $30 club dues, you have to register as a player during the Fall Season with the National Rugby League which costs $70. During the Spring we play 7s and have to register for every tournament we play which is about $35 per.
